Angie came down on Amtrak last night and, after a short debate, we decided we would NOT stay up all night like girls before the prom. But we could have!
Linda kindly picked us up at 8AM and got us to our flight. Although it was booked as Alaska Air, it was operated by American Airlines. But NEITHER flight identifier was recognized, and though the booking agent could confirm we were on the flight and had assigned seats, we had to find a real person to actually check us in once at the airport. And at THAT the flight number never appeared on either of our itineraries. I'm hoping that now we are over those mysteries and we'll be able to check in normally.
But wait! Angie's boarding pass was TSA pre-check ... but mine, though I'm a Global Access member, was not. Had to go off and get THAT fixed. Altogether, a weird way to start.
100% full flight, but our respective seatmates were all OK. Got to SeaTac and hung out a couple hours, then on a 76-passenger prop plane for the short hop to Vancouver. We gate-checked our carry-ons as it was obvious there was no room; they loaded the plane from both front and back to get us out on time. It was a lovely view, the area is so green and the varieties of trees so broad.
Landed without incident in Vancouver and made a quick connection with the hotel shuttle. Then ... what to do about dinner, and how can we find the public-transit train to the cruise-line harbor? We settled on a waterfront restaurant just down the street, but when we got close realized there was no light to help us cross this fast-and-busy thoroughfare. We KNEW we were in Canada when a semi driver just pulled to a stop to block traffic so we could cross! We enjoyed salmon (me) and seafood chowder (Angie), and learned that the best way onto the train was through the local casino. Well, OF COURSE it is ...
So now we're loafing for a few minutes before sleeping off all the travel. Tomorrow we get onto the boat and explore its nooks and crannies ... we're excited to be on the water soon.
